Olesya Rulin will Lead Cast in "A Family Weekend"

Olesya_RulinHigh School Musical and GREEK alum OLESYA RULIN has signed on to star in the indie flick A Family Weekend along with Kristin Chenoweth, Joey King (Ramona and Beezus), and Eddie Hassel (The Kids are All Right).  Ben Epps will direct the Matt K. Turner penned script which was a quarter finalist in the Nicholl Fellowship at the Motion Picture Academy.  Described as Little Miss Sunshine meets Election, Weekend centers around unhappy and neglected teenager Emily Smith-Dungy (played by Rulin) and her unapologetically dysfunctional family.  Fed up and unwilling to acknowledge that she’s just as brazenly narcissistic as everyone else living under the same roof with her, Emily takes drastic measures to get her parents’ perpetually-scattered attention.

Ed Zwick’s Bedford Falls Company has just come on board as a producing partner with Footprint Features, and Zwick will be personally mentoring the project moving forward to its mid-January production start date.

This marks the latest in a string of indie film lead roles for Rulin, who recently starred in Expecting Mary, the Juno-esque tale of a runaway pregnant teen who is taken in by a rag-tag trailer park community, and the psychological thriller Apart with Joey Lauren Adams and Bruce McGill.  In addition to her recurring GREEK (ABC Family) role, Rulin’s year also included guest starring roles on two venerable CBS series The Mentalist and CSI: Miami.
